Contacts and pipeline

Find an opportunity, its stage, and its economic impact

Discover where opportunities live in the portal, search for them on a pipeline table, locate one from a response or contact, understand the difference between its stage (pipeline column) and Status field, and review its economic impact on the opportunity Overview tab.

Before you start

  • An opportunity is a project your team is pursuing. The sidebar has no Opportunities item; opportunities live on pipelines. You reach them from a pipeline board or table, or from the Responses tab of an opportunity you already have open. Contact and organization pages don't list opportunities.
  • A pipeline's columns (on the board) and the Status column (on the table) show the opportunity's stage — which column it's in. The opportunity also has a separate Status field (on its Overview tab) that tracks a different kind of status. See Opportunity statuses to understand how they differ.

Steps

Find opportunities on a pipeline

Opportunities live on Pipelines. Every pipeline you create holds a set of opportunities, organized into columns by stage.

  1. Open Pipelines in the sidebar.
  2. Click a pipeline's name or card to open it.
  3. The pipeline opens to its Board view by default, showing opportunities as cards in columns (one column per stage). Click Table to switch to a list view instead.

Search and filter on the Table view

The Table view is the easiest place to find a specific opportunity:

  1. In the Table view, type the opportunity's name in the Search opportunities… box to narrow the list. The search matches the opportunity name only — not the owner, tags, or description.
  2. Use the All statuses dropdown to show only opportunities in one column (stage). Select a status label to filter, or leave it on All statuses to see them all.
  3. Click the Name column header to sort alphabetically.

The table shows Name, Status (the column it sits in), Owner, Tags, and Updated date. Each row's ⋮ menu has an option to move the opportunity to another pipeline.

Connect a response to an opportunity

On the Responses page, select one or more responses that aren't connected to an opportunity yet, then click Connect to Opportunity above the list. The Connect to Opportunity dialog lists your account's opportunities with their type (Project, Lead, or RFI) — including ones that aren't on any pipeline. Once connected, the response shows up on that opportunity's Responses tab. See Review a response.

Reach an opportunity detail page

Once you've found an opportunity on a pipeline, click its name or card to open its Overview tab.

Stage versus Status

Two things track the opportunity's progress, and they're separate:

  • Stage — the column the opportunity's card sits in on a pipeline board (or the value in the table's Status column). It shows which stage of your pipeline the opportunity is in. You manage stages when you edit a pipeline.
  • Status — a separate field on the opportunity's Summary card (Due Diligence, Scoping, Completed, etc.). It's part of the opportunity itself and travels with it, even if it moves to another pipeline. Only account admins can edit it from Actions → Edit Opportunity. See Opportunity statuses for your account's list.

Dragging a card to a different column changes only its stage; the Status field stays the same. If your team relies on both, keep them in step by hand.

Economic Impact (EDO accounts only)

Economic development organization accounts track the opportunity's projected economic impact on the Overview tab. Open an opportunity and look for the four cards just below the Summary card:

  • Economic Impact (labeled "Auto-calculated") — Total Jobs × Average Salary + Capital Investment
  • Total Jobs — how many jobs this opportunity is expected to create
  • Average Salary — the average salary of those jobs
  • Capital Investment — total capital investment in the project

Click any of the three editable cards to update them all at once. Economic Impact stays blank (—) until both Total Jobs and Average Salary have values; capital investment alone isn't enough.

The board and table views do not show economic impact data — it's only on the opportunity's detail page.

Site selection accounts do not see economic impact cards. The opportunity's Overview tab shows the Summary, Details, and Contacts cards, then your account's custom metrics (if any defined), followed by Tasks and Notes.

Opportunities that aren't on a pipeline

Boards and tables show only the opportunities placed on that pipeline. An opportunity that isn't on any pipeline — typically a Lead — has no stage and doesn't appear on any board or table. The Connect to Opportunity dialog on the Responses page still lists it.

Common questions

Q: I don't see an Opportunities list or item in the sidebar. Where do I find all my opportunities?

A: Opportunities live on pipelines — there's no standalone list. Go to Pipelines, pick a pipeline, and you'll see its opportunities on the board (columns) or in the table. If you need to find one across multiple pipelines, check each one's table view with a search.

Q: Can I search or filter the table by owner, tag, or economic impact?

A: No. The table search matches the opportunity name only. The All statuses dropdown narrows by column (stage). Sorting is only available on the Name column. Economic impact is only visible on the opportunity's detail page, not on the table or board.

Q: The opportunity moved to a different board column but its Status field didn't change. Is it broken?

A: No, that's expected. The board column and the Status field are tracked separately — dragging the card changes only its column. Edit the Status field from Actions → Edit Opportunity if you want it to change too.

Q: Why can't I find a lead on my pipeline board?

A: Boards and tables show only opportunities placed on that pipeline, and leads usually aren't on one, so they have no stage. They're still listed in the Connect to Opportunity dialog on the Responses page.

Q: Where do I see the economic impact of this opportunity?

A: On the opportunity's Overview tab, you'll see four cards showing Economic Impact (auto-calculated), Total Jobs, Average Salary, and Capital Investment. These cards only appear for economic development organization accounts. Site selection accounts do not see them. The board and table views never show economic impact.
